WDS is an old, poorly supported, obsolete form of repeating. Netgear's implementation has a big downside in that you can't use WPA or WPA2 security. Netgear has moved away from WDS and removed it from many of their routers. The R6400 is probably one of the routers that doesn't support WDS. I would recommend that you not use it.
